David graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Trent University in 2007, and later earned a Post Graduate Certificate in Addictions Counselling from Durham College. He initially moved to Edmonton to be with his then-girlfriend and now-wife, Sheena Chapman, but found himself working in sales at Future Shop due to a hiring freeze in his field. While at Future Shop, David became interested in the company's operations and joined the "Future Leaders" program, which allowed employees to train for a management role.

David and Sheena eventually moved back to Ontario, settling in Wasaga Beach after Sheena took a job as a physiotherapist at Body 'n Balance. David continued to work at Future Shop, eventually helping to open a new location in South Barrie. In 2012, David left Future Shop to become the Office Administrator at Body 'n Balance, and later transitioned to the role of Assistant Clinic Director in September 2021.

In his personal life, David enjoys spending time with his family (wife Sheena, daughter Ava, and dog Sophie), staying up to date on current events, reading, watching movies and TV shows, playing video games, and socializing with friends.
