3D Gait Analysis

Body 'n Balance Physiotherapy has partnered with Dr. Reed Ferber at the University of Calgary's Running Injury Clinic to bring you 3D Gait Analysis. Our clinic is one of only 13 locations in North America, and the first in Ontario, to provide this innovative, gold standard technology.  This system has been featured in Maclean's magazine, Men's Health, Canadian Running Magazine, and Runner's World magazine.

This state-of-the-art 3D motion camera and software system captures and accurately measures your movement patterns in all three planes at the ankle, knee, and hip joints. It is the most accurate tool for running and walking injuries in the world.

Using the 3D motion camera and the Running Injury Clinic's specialized software we can provide a "Running Injury Risk" report. This report is based on Dr. Ferber's research using data from hundreds of Gait patients. "After recording your Gait patterns using our 3D system" says Ferber, " we can calculate several important variables associated with injury risk. We then compare you to our data base of runners, and can accurately predict your risk of injury - and more importantly, what you need to do to prevent injury in the future. Every patient treated using this system then becomes part of the research data base, which furthers Dr. Ferber's research program.

How it works:

You will come to the clinic for two visits. We will have you run in your own shoes to measure joint angles at your hips, knees and ankles in 3D.  This allows us to compare your running bio-mechanics to an extensive database of uninjured runners worldwide.  From this, we are able to identify unusual patterns in your running style. By detecting unusual running patterns and performing a runner-specific physiotherapy assessment, we can help prevent injuries from developing or identify the cause of an existing injury, preventing it from recurring.

Bio-mechanical Gait Analysis ($120 fee)

Performed byRegistered Physiotherapist, Don Sorensen. You will be set up and run through the gait analysis.  This visit takes about 45 minutes.  You will only run for approximately 5 - 10 minutes.

Orthopedic assessment and treatment plan ($80 fee)

In this visit, Don will review your 3D gait report and explain the findings. He will first perform a physiotherapy examination to assess your strength, flexibility and joint mobility.  Afterwards he will provide a treatment plan based on your gait analysis, physical assessment and scientific research.

To book an appointment runners simply have to call the clinic at: 705-429-9619

This service is billed as a Physiotherapy Assessment for the 3D Gait Analysis and a Physiotherapy Treatment for your second visit.
